Examples
Overview
To help contributors structure their datasets according to the IsoArcH data model, we provide sample Excel files with fictional data. These examples illustrate how to format and organize information correctly before submitting data to the database.
⚠️ Note: These files contain entirely fictional data and should not be used for scientific analysis. Their sole purpose is to demonstrate how to structure and link data within the IsoArcH framework.
What’s in the Sample Files?
Each file focuses on specific cases that require careful data entry:
Standard dataset example
- Includes typical entries for archaeological materials, samples, and isotopic measurements.
- Follows the required IsoArcH data structure.

Handling groups (cremations, mixed remains, etc.)
- Demonstrates the use of
group
,parent_material_id
, andgroup_count_min/group_count_exact
fields. - Example of cremations with multiple individuals.

How to Use These Files?
- Understand the structure – Each file follows the IsoArcH table and field organization. Review them carefully before preparing your own dataset.
- Use them as a reference – Adapt these templates to your research needs while maintaining the required structure.
- Validate your data before submission – Ensure your dataset meets IsoArcH formatting guidelines and field constraints.
